Kid for Life

Our Kid For Life members came together to celebrate our youth and teen members. The reception included hearing personal stories of struggle and triumph from two of our teen girls, JaNylah, 16 and Zariah, 16 – our 2016 Club Youth of the Year. Thanks to Jeannie Graham for hosting and Asena Restaurant for catering.

Italo’s Garden

We dedicated our edible garden to Italo Calpestri for his extensive philanthropic service as one of our Board Members for the past 49 years. Youth members took Italo’s guests on a tour of the garden and shared some of their Club made snacks with its fresh ingredients. We cannot thank Italo enough for all he has done to serve and support Alameda youth.

Shop with a Kid

This weekend we partnered with Argosy University to put on the inaugural ‘Shop with a Kid’ event at Kohl’s. Thirty-five youth members got paired with adults from Argosy University, San Francisco Bay Area and the Alameda Boys Girls Club to purchase needed back to school clothes and shoes. A big Thank You to Argosy University and all those who sponsored a child’s shopping. This was a very rewarding experience for all involved and we hope to grow it bigger for next year.

Music Lessons at the club!

Music lessons have resumed at the Club! Girl Scout Isabelle Cohn, working toward her Gold Award, secured donations to get 10 brand new acoustic guitars which she uses to teach our youth members how to play the guitar twice a week. Open to all ages, Isabelle teaches the group the fundamentals of chords, finger picking and rhythm, while demonstrating her favorite songs.
