Dr. John Ohanneson has been recognized as a founder of the Alameda Boys & Girls Club. He is credited for raising the capital and support needed to operate the first Boys Club on the Island of Alameda. In honor of his efforts we have established the Dr. John Ohanneson Golden Achievement Award. This recognition will be given annually to an individual, family or couple that has provided tremendous support to the Alameda Boys & Girls Club as well as other youth serving agencies on the Island.  Our first recipients of this award are Don and Rich Sherratt. Don and Rich have provided over 70 years of combined service to the Club. Their affluence reaches beyond Alameda and they are credited with giving and getting several million in dollars for capital projects and operations of the Club. Their “time, talent and treasure” is felt throughout the Island and its youth have always been the recipients.

The Sherratt brothers have supported Little League, Alameda Youth Basketball, Babe Ruth, Pop Warner, Alameda High School baseball and basketball, Alameda World Team and the Alpha Phi Foundation.  Don spent 38 years as an educator on the Island and Rich was at one time the Executive Director for the Alameda Boys Club.
