Rich & Don Sherratt

In 2015, brothers Rich & Don Sherratt were honored as the first-ever recipients of the Alameda Boys & Girls Club’s Dr. John Ohanneson Golden Achievement Award. Dr. John Ohanneson is recognized as a founder of the Alameda Boys & Girls Club. He is credited for raising the capital and support needed to operate the first Boys Club in Alameda in 1949.

The award is given annually to an individual, couple or family that has provided tremendous support to the Alameda Boys & Girls Club as well as other youth serving agencies on the island.

Don & Rich Sherratt were awarded for their over 70 years of combined service to the Club. During this time, their affluence reached beyond Alameda and they are credited with giving and getting several million in dollars for capital projects and operations of the Club. Don spent 38 years as an educator on the island and Rich served as the Executive Directors of the Club for eight years. Their time, talent and treasure is continued to be felt throughout Alameda and its communities youth have always been the recipients.

Don passed away in July 2023 but his legacy lives on through the Club's
