Seed-to-Table Coordinator – Part Time

Under the general supervision of the Program Director, the Seed-to-Table Coordinator will develop and lead creative activities for youth of different ages in a trauma-sensitive environment. The Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the Club’s ¼ acre garden, developing activities that incorporate the garden and kitchen together to promote healthy food options to our youth, and increasing program impact by forging strong community connections.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the Garden Advisory Team and Program Director to develop and manage seasonal crop plans that tie into the cooking curriculum and are appropriate to the community we serve.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate garden-based activities for Club youth K-12 in accordance with the Club’s mission & outcomes.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate curriculum for beginner & intermediate cooking classes utilizing produce from Italo’s Garden and pantry items.
  • Manage and improve the cultivation and maintenance of Italo’s Garden, a 1/4-acre organic garden including annual/perennial food crops, fruit orchard, perennial habitat plantings, bioremediation garden, greenhouse, irrigation system, compost, pest control, and built structures.
  • Coordinate community volunteers to assist with continued maintenance and growth of the garden and the Seed-to-Table Program. This may include Club families, local groups, individuals, student interns, Eagle Scouts, and corporate groups.
  • Maintain kitchen inventory, organization and cleanliness.
  • Create content for marketing and communication strategies in conjunction with the Program Director and Digital Media Coordinator.
  • Communicate with program director and staff about class schedules, program needs, objectives, etc.
  • Help implement program assessment and evaluation through talking to students, participating in observations, administering surveys and reflecting on teaching practice.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.
  • Ensure productive and effective work environment.
  • Monitor program areas to ensure member safety.
  • May participate in special programs or events.
  • Participate in individual supervision, staff meetings, and organization training.


SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must be ServeSafe Food Handler certified, with knowledge of Alameda County public health and safety requirements.
  • At least one year’s experience in program planning/development in an educational environment that taught youth or adults.
  • Effectively use Microsoft Word, Outlook mail and Outlook calendar.
  • Work effectively with volunteers, parents, school officials and other community members.
  • Represent the Club positively in the community.
  • Should be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Ability to pass a DOJ fingerprint clearance.

This position is a part time position (not to exceed 30 hours a week). Hourly rate is negotiable but anticipated range is $25-$27/hr.
